国际运输行话International Shipping Jargon

We deal with a lot of shipping jargon and abbreviations on a daily basis, but not all of us know what it means and implications of incorrect usage of the jargon. In this article, I will be explaining the various jargon that is used in day to day shipping work. ETA = Estimated Time of Arrival (预计到港时间) – commonly used to denote the date and time at which a ship is expected to arrive at a port. Usually seen in shipping schedules circulated by shipping lines or information provided to the port. 这个时间一般出现在预定船舱时,根据预计开船时间和航行时间预估的到岸时间。

ETB = Estimated Time of Berthing (预计停泊时间) – commonly used to denote the date and time at which a ship is expected to berth at a port/terminal. This term is usually seen in pre-arrival notifications sent to the ships. 这个时间与ETA相似,只不过这个时间是在船快靠岸前发出,比ETA更准确一点。

ETC = Estimated Time of Completion (预计结束时间) – commonly used to denote the date and time at which a ship is expected to complete its cargo operations. This term is usually seen in arrival reports sent to ship owners. 这个时间指货船结束本次航行任务,一般用来通知货船公司或主人。

ETD = Estimated Time of Departure (预计开船时间) – commonly used to denote the date and time at which a ship is expected to depart from a certain port/terminal. This term is usually seen in arrival reports sent to ship owners and also in shipping schedules circulated by shipping lines or information provided to the port. 这个时间一般出现在预定船舱时,预计的开船时间。

ETS = Estimated Time of Sailing (预计开船时间) – similar to ETD 跟ETD意思相同或相近。

FCL – Full Container Load (整箱货) – means that the container has cargo that is shipped by one shipper for delivery to one consignee. 订购的货物以集装箱为单位,整箱货物属于同一个买家。

LCL – Less than Container Load (拼箱货) – this is when the same container is used for cargoes belonging to multiple shippers and consignees. The clients deliver their cargo to the lines packing station (CFS – Container Freight Station) and the line then packs the delivered cargo on behalf of the client. 同一个集装箱里的货物属于不同的买家。

Port and Starboard (船的左侧和右侧) – There are several ideas and versions of the origin of these words, but in simple shipping terms, it means the LEFT SIDE and RIGHT SIDE of the ship respectively.

MSDS (货物材料有害物质清单)– The abbreviation stands for Material Safety Data Sheet. An MSDS is a form containing all possible information relating to the hazardous cargo in question. It provides guidance in handling the commodity and the properties and composition of the item in question. 这个清单包含了所有有害物质的尽可能详尽的信息,便于运输公司使用正确的方法来处理这些货物。

MBL (船东单) – The abbreviation stands for Master Bill of Lading used extensively in freight forwarding circles. MBL是船公司签发的提单, 以船公司为抬头的,MBL可以直接向船公司提货。

HBL (货代单) – The abbreviation stands for House Bill of Lading used extensively in freight forwarding circles. HBL是货代基于MBL出的提单,由货代公司签发, 以货代名称为抬头。HBL时必须先在目的港向货代的代理换取MBL,然后再凭着MBL去提货,俗称换单。

SLAC (托运人装载计数)– The abbreviation stands for “Shippers Load Stow and Count” and is used extensively and mainly in containerized shipping.” 提单上的数量是根据托运人提供的数据填写的,承运人并未核实。承运人批注此内容的目的是力图对货物数量发生的短少免责。

NVOCC (无船承运人,特指海运)– this abbreviation stands for Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier. 货代是货运代理人,不是船公司实际承运人。承运人一般是“与发货人订立运输合同的人或者实际完成运输的人”。NVOCC是无船承运人,这也算是货代,不过是有资格做船公司的代理。NVOCC可以以自己的名义签提单, 货代不能。

STC (据称内装)– this abbreviation stands for Said To Contain. 货代也不知道在柜子里面到底装了什么东西,所以这样写以撇清责任。
